We are back in Denver

It was a whirlwind of a holiday season for our family.  We were home for 10 days before returning to Denver for the remainder of Sam's therapy sessions.  We arrived back here (Denver) on Saturday, Jan. 3 and treatments resumed Monday, Jan. 5.  We are glad to be back!

We are in our third day of treatments this week.  Sam has really picked up right where he left off.  Lindsay, the OT, said that sometimes kids take a few sessions of disregulation to get back down to productive therapies.  Sam jumped right in and transitioned really well!  He was ready to get back into the ball pit and find his bunny family that he enjoys playing with.  He has tried a few new things already this week.  He road on the zipline inside an intertube.  He also climbed the rock wall with the help of Jason. Sam is doing really well.  I wish we could continue with these therapies long term.  It is amazing to watch the progress!

Speech therapy is moving right along too.  Sam warmed right up to Carrie again and has allowed her to manipulate his lips, jaw, and cheeks to help him form the words and sounds. He is saying more words, especially during play time.  It is hard for Sam to say words upon request, but if he's not thinking about it, he can clearly say his favorites words like bunny, baby, snow, go, and stop.

We get home from Denver on Wednesday, Jan. 14.  Sam has his augmentative communication assessment on Jan. 28 at Scott and White in Temple.  We will venture into another round of learning as we gain more knowledge about the augmentative communication system and begin to work with the technology.  I am excited to see how Sam responds.  When he's interested, he catches on so quickly to new things.  I hope that he will quickly see the value in learning how to use an augmentative communication system and learn how to put more words to his thoughts.

Tomorrow is our feeding therapy evaluation.  Both our OT and ST recommended that we have Sam's eating evaluated.  I guess kids with sensory processing issues often have sensitivities to foods or textures.  Sam has always been a sensitive eater, so we will see  what that holds for us tomorrow morning.

Thank you for your continued prayers and support!
